This is some thing which I learnt from my granny and my favorite.. I’ll make sure my paati makes these when I visit her.
Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
Egg : 3 nos
Coconut (grated) : 1/4 cup
Onions(preferrably small ones):1/2 cup
Red Chillies : 2 nos
Coriander Powder : 1 tsp
Red Chilly Powder : a pinch (depends on your taste buds)
Turmeric Powder : 1/2 tsp
Oil : 3 tsp
Cumin Seeds (Jeera) – 1tsp
Pepper – 1tsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Bay Leave – small piece
Cinnamon – small piece
Cloves – 2 nos
Curry Leaves – as needed
Coriander Leaves – as needed
Salt – as needed
Methods:
- Add 2 tsp full og oil in a pan
- Add cinnamon, bayleave and clove in th oil
- Add Onion in the pan and stir fry in for few seconds
- Add coconut, Coriander Powder, Turmeric Powder, Red Chillies, Red Chilli powder, cumin, pepper
- Stir Fry for a minute
- Transfer the contents to a mixer and grind finelye(add water as needed).
- Add 1 tsp oil in a pan
- Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and allow it splutter
- add the grounded masala on the pan and allow it to boil till there is no raw smell of onions
- meanwhile break the egg in a small container(u can remove the yolk at this point if needed)
- add the egg in the boiling masala
- let it boil for 30 -40 seconds. add salt and remove the pan from the fire
- add Coriander leaves for garnishing
my grandmom still uses the stone grinder to gring the masala..and that really tastes great
